The Importance of Math
Looking back now on the whole education process from the days of cutting things out and gluing them onto a piece of paper, to standing in front of an international finance class, it is all so very clear how important math is. It's probably a little odd to put it in those terms, but when you look at how it teaches your brain to tackle things, it becomes very evident!
When starting out in life, basic math is one of the first things that you are taught: you learn addition and subtraction. Have you ever thought about how often you use this every day? You go to the store to buy some bananas, because you are using them in a recipe that calls for six bananas. You know you have one at home, so you need five more. Seems like a pretty silly example, but you just used math! As you grew older you were taught algebra, and though most of us aren’t solving for X in our daily lives as adults, we do handle everyday problems utilizing those basics that algebra taught us. Let's say that you are driving along in your car and you get a flat tire, so you now have a problem that you must solve…you have your X! So how are you going to solve the tire problem: are you going to just take the tire off the car? Of course not, you have a specific way that you will solve for X. You will first get out the jack and raise the car up on the jack, and then from there you will remove the tire. You might argue that this is common sense, but at the same time, could you think back to algebra and what it taught you about how you solve for X. Did you ever think that the way you went about solving your tire problem was partly or maybe even completely due to what you learned in algebra? It's strange to think that the order of operations for solving for X could be used in a real world setting, but they can!
There are countless other examples that could be brought up for all the different ways that we use math in our everyday lives. You could go on forever thinking about what we learned in geometry or calculus and how we still use those things every day. But what if you struggled with your math classes? Maybe math tutoring, whether it was algebra tutoring, trig tutoring, or calculus tutoring could have really helped you. Tutorzilla offers this help with great Math and Science tutors at affordable prices so that you or your children won't get stuck, because math concepts really do stick with you for a lifetime. So regardless of how you felt when you were actually learning it, when you take a step back and look at all the things you learned in school, it becomes clear how important math was and continues to be.
