The entire nation should make note of what Bill Franke is doing, not because of the actual dollar amount that he is giving, (which is impressive), but because of what his intentions are. We are a nation that is starting to fall behind the rest of the world. A shocking statistic to come out of that article is that 35% of the nation's 25 to 34 year old students attain an associate's degree or higher! That number should be considered disappointingly low for one of the most powerful nations in the world! Where has our education system gone wrong? Why are more students not motivated to get a college degree?
One answer could be that the education system in America isn't operating at the level that it used to. This isn't the fault of educators here, but rather a system that doesn't look to improve upon itself from year to year. Why is there a continued struggle with Math and Science? If students are having trouble with those subjects year in and year out, maybe we need to look into changing the way those subjects are taught.
